hair Cowash, what is it?
“Cowash” is an English term that comes from the abbreviation of “conditioner-only-washing” which means “washing based on conditioner only”. It indicates a way of cleansing the hair that involves the use of conditioner instead of shampoo, and the addition of sugar. Now we’ll explain everything to you! 👇
hair cowash: Why use conditioner to wash your hair?
Conditioner, like shampoo, also contains surfactants that allow you to cleanse the scalp and hair. Compared to shampoo, conditioner is able to offer a gentler cleansing, especially suitable for:
- Those who have to wash their hair very often (due to swimming pool, sea, sports, summer, etc.)
- Those with very dry, frizzy, delicate or weak hair (e.g. in winter or with the change of season when hair loss is more intense)
- Who has curly and afro-curly hair
Why add sugar in your hair cowash conditioner? If the conditioner is used to cleanse the hair, the sugar grains, used as a scrub, are used to cleanse the scalp. Mixed together with the conditioner they make it more full-bodied and creamy. If you want, however, you can also cleanse your hair with just conditioner.
Best conditioner for hair cowash
Thanks to its blend of nourishing oils, emollient ingredients and mild surfactants, the BeOnMe Pre-Shampoo Nourishing Treatment is the ideal conditioner for hair cowashing.
On the contrary, compared to a normal conditioner, it makes cleansing a precious and special treatment, because its formula contains nourishing organic active ingredients and antioxidants, selected to give the hair a real shower of benefits! 🤩
In addition, it does not contain microplastics, silicones or synthetic ingredients and is the perfect natural treatment to gently cleanse the lengths of the hair while keeping them soft and well hydrated.
hair Cowash, how to do it
- Moisten your hair. If you have time, we recommend wrapping it in a towel and leaving it on for a few minutes for a “sauna” effect, which will prepare it to receive the treatment at its best.
- Take a small cup and fill it with three tablespoons of balm and three tablespoons of brown sugar – choose a sugar with medium to large crystals.
- Stir vigorously to dissolve the lumps, until the mixture has become nice and creamy.
- Apply it a little at a time starting from the scalp: massage the skin gently with slow, circular movements. Leave it on for a few minutes. Do not massage the lengths of the hair.
- Rinse it abundatly, thoroughly and with lukewarm water, until your hair is completely clean and cleansed.
⚠️ If you’ve never done a scalp scrub before, you may feel a bit itchy or tingling—that’s normal if the sensation is mild. Remember, however, that the scrub must always be done with extreme delicacy!
⚠️ If, on the other hand, your skin reddens or hurts, stop the treatment and rinse it with plenty of water: we recommend that you check if you are allergic to one of the ingredients contained in the balm and in any case consult a dermatologist.
hair Cowash, when to do it
If you have never done a hair cowash, we recommend that you introduce it into your hair routine a little at a time: alternate it with a normal shampoo-based wash, preferably a gentle and natural one such as BeOnMe’s Delicate Shampoo with chamomile and wheat protein. Once you have become an expert and your hair has become accustomed to hair cowashing, you can permanently replace it with shampoo.
You can also use this type of hair wash as an extra beauty treatment to be activated at certain times of the year, when the hair is more stressed or weak, such as in summer or at the change of season.
