“Vegan cosmetics”: meaning
✔️ If a cosmetic is vegan, it means that it does NOT contain ingredients of animal origin (such as bee was, honey, propolis, snail slime, mother-of-pearl, milk, silk powder, etc…)
❌ Vegan cosmetic is not synonymous with “natural” or “organic” ➡️ For example, silicone is vegan, but it is not natural or organic.
❌ Vegan cosmetic are not synonymous with “cruelty-free” ➡️ Cruetly-free means “not tested on animals”. A product, however, may contain only vegan ingredients, but still be tested on animals. (This is not the case in the European Union, where animal testing is banned.)
Animal testing banned in the EU
With a first regulation in 2009, and a second in 2013, the European Union banned all animal testing in the cosmetic field.
Not only is it forbidden to test cosmetics and their ingredients on animals in the EU, but also to use cosmetic ingredients tested outside the EU.
