The goji plant (Lycium barbarum) is a species in the family Solanaceae. Native to China, it has a 3,000-year history as a magical herb and is an ingredient used in traditional Chinese medicine. Its exotic berries are considered among the richest and most nutrient, in addition to being a food with powerful anti-aging properties. It is nicknamed the “happy berry” for the sense of calm, wellbeing it induces, while increasing energy, vitality and strength and protecting the body from premature aging. The various components of the plant are closely correlated with activity. The free amino acids and proteoglycans give it antioxidant, protective properties for the skin, while glucose and fructose provide conditioning, revitalizing, and moisturizing benefits. Goji is used as a fortifier and energizer in skincare and hair-care products, in anti-age products for the skin, in tonics, and in emollient creams. It also has applications in products for children and in shower and bath products.
