For the purposes stated for the Fatturazione elettronica (Italian Legislative Decree 205/2017), Italian customers with a VAT number are required to inform their suppliers of their unique recipient code or, alternatively, their own PEC address. Customers with a flat-rate tax regime are exempted from issuing electronic invoices but this exemption does not extend to their suppliers who are still subject to the obligation.
